Usually, graphic designers are first promoted to senior designer, then art director. If you started your career with training and experience, a degree will help you with promotions. If you want to go beyond spending hours on a computer following someone else’s directions, a degree is a must. Art Directors make over arching design decisions and usually have the last word on what is acceptable for a project.
